Wandering Waves

Wandering Waves is the solo exhibition in China by London-based Chinese artist Ash Xu (Chuwen Xu), whose interdisciplinary practice spans interactive installation, BCI (Brain-Computer Interface) art, speculative art, and digital media. This exhibition presents a constellation of works that explore the entanglement of human cognition, technological systems, and cultural identity, articulated through immersive environments and generative media.

The solo exhibition offers a sensory and intellectual journey into a world where cognition is visible, participation is essential, and boundaries are porous. It invites the viewer into a liminal space where art is not only observed but experienced as a reciprocal flow between mind and machine, tradition and innovation, the personal and the planetary.

As with the Wandering Waves, so does our understanding of what it means to create, perceive, and connect in a world of accelerating hybridity.

"Leaving the Earth Next Week" - Liu Yang's Solo Exhibition

Exhibition Venue: Zhongjie Branch of Tinglan Art Museum

Host: Tinglan Art Museum

Co - organizers: Shengjing Guli,

Dehua Cultural and Art Exchange Center,

Beijing Baicheng International Cultural Tourism Development Co., Ltd.

Liu Yang's works focus on "exploring the wisdom of modern ecological symbiosis", which contains not only a beautiful vision for the future, but also full of reflections on anthropocentrism - humans are not the dominant rulers of the earth, all things are the masters of the earth, and each of us is just a form of life on the earth, jointly depending on the resources and destiny of this planet. At the moment, leaving the earth is not the answer, but a mirror, reflecting the profound connection between the earth and humans that has been ignored, forgotten, but never disappeared.

Can we really leave this land next week?

This is not just an exhibition of artworks, but also a warning about nature. By virtue of the artists' profound perception of things, we hope to capture the subtle tremors of the precise mechanism of ecological balance.

Each exhibit is a direct observation of things. The artists act as messengers, conveying the voice of nature. This is an attempt to awaken our numb senses and regain empathy with all things. This is an invitation for you to regain the most acute observation of the essence of things after being immersed in art.

Symphony of Copper and Wood

Organizer: Tinglan Art Museum

Co-organizer: Shengjing Guli De, Dehua Cultural and Art Exchange Center

Exhibition Time: December 12, 2024 - January 5, 2025

Exhibition Venue: Tinglan Art Museum (Zhongjie Branch)

The interwoven movement of metal and wood grain is like the mutual reflection of day and night, light and darkness. Copper, with its cold edge, bears the oxidation of time. Wood, with its warm texture, carves the patterns of nature. With each brushstroke and chisel strike, when the tip touches the copperplate, the lines grow like a song in the wind; when the burin passes over the wooden board, it leaves traces of light and shadow. Colors dance on the copperplate, and black and white murmur in the woodblock. The virtual and the real, the firm and the soft, all resonate here to form a harmonious composition. At this moment, please slow down your pace, listen to the resonance of copper and wood, and explore another form of life. This is a dialogue between materials and the soul, and even more, a poem between the artist's hands and nature. Welcome to the "Symphony of Copper and Wood" and experience this artistic symphony that transcends materials.

The "cave metaphor" reflects that the real world is not the world that people perceive. Most people are like prisoners of the illusion facing the wall, and the real world is not what is seen. This exhibition is an exploration of the medium with luminous properties, a re-experience of the original perception. By intervening in the ontology's cognition of the world, the artist attempts to guide the viewer to see the world in an artistic way, and to start a dialogue with the light of the outside world. The light is hidden at the edge of existence. The mysterious symbols radiating from the semiconductor box form light waves that stimulate the viewer's thinking. The works depict the silhouette of the seemingly real, revealing the truth hidden behind the illusion. The audience wanders in the reflection of the world shone with light, exploring mysterious and unknown territories. The works in this exhibition, some based on social phenomena, some focusing on visual effects, strive to provoke thinking and resonance on different levels.

The Yi people, also known as the Lolo, are a minority ethnic group from southwestern China, renowned for their rich cultural heritage, unique language, and traditional festivals. The term "Yi" (夷) carries meanings of pacification and subjugation but also reflects the ancient central plains' disdain for distant tribes. Despite the many historical and cultural changes, the geographical and psychological "margins" of the "Yi" maintain a resilient vitality, much like wildfires that regenerate with the spring wind. In the broader context, the mechanical reproduction of the digital age is also devouring the growth of the "Yi," leading to an accumulation of symbols and kitsch. This exhibition boldly steps into the heart of this conflict, using digital means to reflect on the digital age and traditional methods to disrupt traditional conventions. Through a multimedia presentation of Yi culture, the artists immerse the audience in an atmosphere of cultural disarray, revealing the dislocation between cultural appearances and essences. This forms a mirror to mainstream culture, allowing for the retrieval and re-creation of the "Yi" (Aura). This "vacuum preservation" of cultural essence exists here and now, coexisting with you.

Ltd. Hui (晖), meaning the radiance of sunlight that illuminates all things, symbolizes light and brilliance—a theme laden with profound implication in this exhibition. In Chinese culture, landscapes represent spiritual sustenance and the pursuit of transcendence. Hui is akin to the distant mountain’s glow piercing through clouds, guiding viewers to an inward journey of exploration. The exhibition aims to visualize the imagery of Hui through art, inviting reflection on Chinese philosophy and offering wisdom and enlightenment from the interplay of mind and nature. It reflects the artist’s contemplation on the relationships between humanity and nature, society, and the cosmos.

Organized by: M56 Art Museum

Exhibition Date: October 30, 2022 – November 20, 2022

Li Song's paintings do not record superficial phenomena floating on the surface of the world. He begins by retreating to the position of a sober observer, truthfully expressing his inner anxiety and 困顿 (unease) through gentle yet continuous strokes. His perspective is both elevated and grounded, his style both turbulent and steady, full of perplexity yet resolute in stride, gradually reaching a temporarily secure highland with smooth precision.
